For the uninitiated, CAMP NANOWRIMO is 30 days of writing, just like NaNoWriMo, except it’s in April, and – as the name suggests –  this challenge involves escaping real life, holding yourself up in an internet-based cabin with other ‘mad’ writers with the express aim of completing a writing project.

You don’t have to write a novel. Or conjure up 50K words. You set your own goals, track your own progress and, in the process, have 100% fun. That last bit is compulsory!

I won’t be with you – I have a lot of other stuff happening this month – but here’s my gift to all of you that are setting off on this adventure.

CAMP NANOWRIMO survival guide

Follow these 10 steps. Each link takes you back to one of my earlier blog postings …

  1. Use Scrivener from Day 1. Yes, whether you are starting a new project or working on something that you wrote already, do it with Scrivener.
  2. Need to Learn Scrivener Fast? Joseph Michael is your man …
  3. But, there is also lots of help at hand, courtesy of Literature & Latte.
  4. Enjoy the all-in-one-place sense of control over your writing.
  5. Keep all your research material and links within reach.
  6. Build your character sketches complete with images, as you go, and keep notes on settings too.
  7. Switch from Scrivenings view to the Corkboard to see the structure of your masterpiece.
  8. Make use of Annotations when things occur to you mid-sentence.
  9.  Set yourself targets and use these targets in the Outline view to avoid the what-do-I-write-next panic.
  10. Last but not least, use all the colours of the rainbow to brighten each writing day.

Enjoy!
